Getting Started with Google Adsense

First things first, I would like to thank all the visitors for visiting this blog. I sincerely hope that you find the information on this blog worthwhile and make best use of it.

You have taken the first step towards your success with Adsense. So, what should you do next?

Sign up for Google Adsense

You will find a link at the right side of this page.

You need to submit your request to the Adsense Team, asking them to sign your website/blog. Ofcourse, you need to have either a website or blog to run Adsense. My personal recommendation to you is to get started with Blogs.

Sign up for a blogger account at http://www.blogger.com. Sign up is extremely easy and there are faster chances of getting approved with Adsense if you start with a blogger account. The AdSense Team will send you an email with their decision regarding your AdSense application within just a few days.

How Google AdSense works

Google indexes your website using their crawlers and the reason is given below:

Google AdSense is a system of placing targeted ads across various webpages of your site. Google does this by having you place a link to their JavaScript code which analyzes the content of your current page, finds the keywords on it, and then places relevant ads in a visual form you define. This JavaScript code doesn't analyze your actual page in a browser window, but instead analyzes the indexed copy Google has in its database. In case some of your pages are not indexed yet, the script will have to try and do some basic analysis of your page on the fly, but it will not necessarily provide the best results - most often such analysis will only allow AdSense select ads relevant to some keywords found in your content based on their frequency in the text.

If your page is very new and hasn't been indexed yet, it will probably not show any targeted ads - depending on the visual type of your ads, AdSense will either show you some text links which may not seem awfully relevant to your content, or it will show one of them standard placeholders - inviting people to advertise with AdSense.

The Good News

The great news is that Google Adsense if approved & activated only once, you can use it on all your websites and blogs. No need to apply for approval for each site you may build again.

You will not have to wait until all the new pages get indexed before you can place your ads. Also according of opinion among webmasters, placing AdSense ads on brand new pages will actually trigger Google bots to come and index your website sooner than they would normally do.

Ubuntu vs Leopard vs Vista

This post is courtesy Google Trends. I just love it. This isn't a sudden awakening to the Google tool that has been out for long. But yeah, the implementation just impressed me absolutely. We have all been subjected to the intense drama of the face-off among the three big-wigs in the OS world. For all the morons who are still wondering, I'm talking about Ubuntu's Gutsy-Gibbon, Apple's Mac OS 10.5 Leopard, and Windows' successor of XP,Vista. Now, people may argue that the Leopard has been sucking all the eyeballs, internet spaces on blogs, forum discussions and well search engine keyowrds as well. But the Google Trends comparison actually gives a startling eye-opener. Have a look at the graph below. The figures are of the last month,ie Oct-15th to Nov 15th 2007.(The figures before that aren't much different either.)

A region wise ,city wise, and a language wise comparison of the search trends.

The region-wise comparison strengthens the point here . That people across the globe, irrespective of the language, region or city they live in, have been searching more on the Net(read Google) about Vista than any of the other two rivals. Like it, or hate it, you just can't ignore it

Yahoo! Messenger

To enable multiple login in Yahoo messenger, you need to add a registry entry. Instead of doing that manually, you can just download registry file here. Double click that registry file & restart Yahoo Messenger. To disable this option, download registry file from here & double click it.

How to make all video files & extensions playable on your PC

Liked a video at your friends home, brought it to your PC using a CD or thumb drive. Open with windows media player. Damn!, it’s showing up some error that it can’t play video file. You probably got hurt a lot. There are two ways to make all video files playable:

1) VLC Media Player:

I already described about this player on “Freewares I use” post. VLC is an open source multimedia player which is capable of playing all video formats. VLC supports popular formats like DIVX, MPEG-4, Quick Time & almost any video format.

2) Installing CODEC packs:

Installing codec packs will enable your current media player to play all video formats. One of the popular codecs is k-lite codec pack. K-lite supports all video files & available in different packs like Basic, Standard, Full, Corporate Edition & Mega. Mega is preferable if you want to get real alternatives to play real media files.
